Popular Mexican-American Singer Dies In Plane Crash

Jenni Rivera: July 2, 1969-December 9, 2012
Mexican-American singer, Jenny Dolores Rivera Saavedra better known as Jenni Rivera, has died in a plane crash, Sunday, in Mexico.
Minutes after taking off from the northern city of Monterrey on its way to Toluca, the plane disappeared.
“My queen, we will see each other again soon,” the singer’s father Pedro Rivera told reporters in Los Angeles. “We thought it was a press speculation, we wanted to believe that. But it’s true, my daughter is dead.”
Mexico’s Director of Civil Aviation Alejandro Argudín said the plane had crashed, killing everyone on board.
“The aircraft was left completely destroyed,” Argudín said. “The information we have is that there wasn’t a single survivor.”
At least five people were traveling in the plane: the pilots, Miguel Pérez and Alejandro Torres, and three more passengers: the singer, her publicist and her makeup artist.
Rivera is renowned for her work within the banda and norteña music genres. Her tenth studio album, Jenni in 2008, became her first number-one album in the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the United States (wikipedia).
Before her flight, Rivera had played a concert in Monterrey and went to her hotel before boarding the plane, a Learjet 25 with U.S. registration. She was aged 43.
